New ideas

Hi everybody,

I am having lots of new proyects in mind, at the moment I am making faux "delft blue" (typical Dutch) beads with a blue flower. It is strange fact that when you are born in a country, you don´t really appreciate your surroundings or culture, usually you plan your hollidays somewhere else more exotic/tropical etc etc. It is a shame that it needs several years out of your own country to miss the surroundings, habits, culture, people etc you didn´t really appreciated before. I have reached the point now where I am seeking inspiration in those lovely memories I have from my homecountry, tulips, delft blue, windmills etc etc.
When I have some more time, I would love to make a few mixed media paintings with clay of Dutch landscapes. However I still have quite some other proyects before that, my mum want me to "pimp" our mail box with clay mosaic and my husband casually "found" an old horrible plastic clock and he challenged me to make a clay one, using the mecanical parts of the old one. Sometimes I have a hard time understanding people who don´t have ideas, I would love to be able to "switch" mine off sometimes because I can´t keep us with myself.
Lately I have noticed on facebook and other pages that lots and lots of people are making the same vintage bronze items, which is a mayor reason for me do exactly the contrary and go my own way. How are you ever going to distinguish your work from others if it is exactly the same?

Where do you get inspiration from?
Just like everybody else I have learned thanks to the people who were willing to share their knowledge on the internet by means of tutorials and also by buying books of famous artists, like Donna Kato, Julie Picarello and Christi Friesen, which I found very helpful. I did some projects of those books and I loved it. However my goal is to get my own "signature" in the clay world. Where Christi is famous for her dragons, turtles and other great sculptures, Donna for her caning, and Julie for her mokume gane, I would love to be asociated with flowers.  I love flowers and mostly those I don´t have to water because I can´t even keep a cactus alive, so instead of torturing real plants and flowers I prefer to keep it with clay! Flowers are colourfull and make me think of spring and they give a touch of romance in a world always rushing and full of concrete and technology. Although I will certainly continue to experiment with styles and tecniques, flowers have my preference, my goal is to make them look as real as possible and to make wearable jewelry.
